Are You Stuck in a Rut? Going in Circles?

We all have so many things to manage just to get through the day. And on top of simply getting through the day, we all have expectations and desires to make changes in our lives. We say, “If only I could do this… then everything will sort itself out.” And guess what? It never happens. And there we are, continually running circles until we are in a deep rut and have no idea how to get out! That’s how we set ourselves up for failure.

There’s an old saying that insanity is trying the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. It’s definitely a rut that goes nowhere and ends up making us feeling self-judgemental and hopeless.

You can use Conscious EFT™ to get out of the rut and into a new groove.

There is a lot of brain science showing how we get stuck in those ruts and, even better, clear info on how we can break out to make the changes we want to see.

There are two things we need to set in place to support change:

#1. Significant and sustainable change only happens when our nervous system is in a safe and peaceful state (called parasympathetic), not in stress (also called fight or flight).

Yes, I know we can force immediate changes when we are in stress/fear/anxiety. Look at me! I haven’t smoked or eaten sugar for days or even weeks! But something happens that triggers our nerves, and we slide right back into that habit (a.k.a. the well-worn rut) we hate. Significant and sustainable change only happens when our nervous system and biology are in a safe, calm state. This gives us the power to make a change. From a calm and grounded state, we can open space to release the old patterns that held us in the rut. And start to build new ones that reflect how we want to be. In this safe state, we have more blood going to our thinking brain and more insight and clarity about how we can actually achieve the change we want. And we have more energy to achieve the next step.

#2. Action – NOT BIG ACTION – but small clear steps are taken consistently and regularly.

I know we all want to make change easily and immediately. And sometimes, it feels like it should be easy when we have a big blast of inspiring energy. We tell ourselves, “Of course, I can do that! I can wake up tomorrow and be perfect!” The science of neuroplasticity is showing us that we need to take action to build the new groove (a.k.a. new neural networks) we want to see. But it doesn’t happen overnight. Change takes regular repetition. That’s why so many spiritual traditions and effective health techniques have a daily practice. As we practice the small steps needed to build our new groove, the neural pathways in our brain that support change gets stronger, and the old ones connected to the rut we want to release get weaker and eventually disappear.

We can use Conscious EFT™ to build a solid foundation for self-nurturing, clarity and change. Not only does it build a strong and resilient nervous system, but it can also reinforce the new neural pathways for our new groove.
